Co-Parenting Article

Here is a link to an excellent article by divorce lawyer Scott Morgan that appeared on the Memoirs of a Single Dad Blog under the title Suggestions for Lessening the Impact on Children After Divorce.

The article is excellent and worth your time to read.  Here are some of the highlights:

  • Communicate civilly with your ex, whether he/she deserves it or not.
  • Do not vent to your children about anything related to the divorce or your difficulties with your ex.
  • Do not discuss finances with your children – these are grown up issues.
  • Learn to accept any new partner in your spouse’s life.

There is a lot more to be gained by reading the entire article, so check it out.  Also if you have co-parented a child yourself, or just have thoughts on the issue, please let us hear about it in the comment section below.

EDIT: Here is another excellent co-parenting article worth checking out.

  1. Great article on such an important and most of the time forgotten issue when it comes to divorce. Evrything is important but I think one of the most important aspects is not venting to you your childre, we forget they are kids and if during the divorce we the adults are confuse imagine how a kid is feeling!

  2. I find these tips very logical and I´ll try to apply them as much as possible, it´s really hard to go through a divorce and we´re both trying to make it as light as we can on our son.

  3. when my wife and I had recently separated I noticed that both of us were talking finance to our kids, boy was this dumb!! We as parents need to pay attention to what they are feeling not how “frustrated” we are eachother (mom and dad).
But we learned from that, and you do a great service by informing other parents about which issues to avoid talking to the children in a divorce.
